People from all walks of life are discovering the health enhancing benefits of Massage Therapy. Beyond simply making you "feel good", massage offers an impressive range of therapeutic benefits. A skilled massage therapist can relieve bodily tension by stretching and loosening muscle and connective tissue, and at the same time greatly improve blood flow to the heart and movement of lymph fluid through the body.

Massage can speed the removal of metabolic waste products resulting from exercise or inactivity, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach the cells and tissue. Therapeutic massage can also stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers-into the brain and nervous system. Many people have never experienced professional bodywork and have a multitude of questions. Some of the more frequent questions are:

If I'm healthy and active, why would I consider therapeutic massage?

To improve your recovery time between vigorous exercise. To prevent injuries caused by overuse or intense use of muscles. To aid in rehabilitation after medical treatment for injuries or physical therapy. To relieve everyday stress as well as more extreme stresses from pressure or crisis. To feel great

What can I expect with my first massage?

Initially, the therapist will ask about your reasons for getting a massage, your current physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, stress levels, any area of pain, etc.

You will be asked to undress in private and drape yourself with a sheet provided for you (underwear is left on or off at your discretion).

You will then lie down on a comfortably padded massage table. Only the part of your body being worked on will be uncovered, and your modesty will be respected.

In a full-body massage, the therapist works on all muscles, skillfully kneading and stroking. In a session devoted to localized injury, pain, tightness, or sports readiness, specific muscles receive concentrated attention. The length of the massage will be determined at the outset.

Is it good to get a massage on a regular basis?

The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative. From one session to the next, you are able to relax more and more as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are relieved.

If I get a massage for pain or injury, will my insurance cover it?

If a physician prescribes it, your insurance will sometimes cover it. It depends on the company and the policy. Discuss this with your massage therapist.

Types of Massage Offered

Swedish Massage is a light to firm nurturing massage which promotes full body relaxation.

Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils to improve health and reduce stress. Essential oils have been used to improve health in the physical, emotional and mental states. They have been utilized for thousands of years.

Deep Tissue Massage frees congestion of the muscle attachments. Deep work brings about realignment of postural distortions and restores proper range of motion. Liberation of emotional tensions may also result. Muscle function and awareness are balanced, and elasticity is revived.

Hot Stone Therapy is excellent for deep-tissue penetration and incredibly soothing! The treatment is conducted by using volcanic hot stones. These are variously used for muscle relaxation and incorporated into a Swedish Massage (partial hot stone) or used throughout the session, including placement on the chakras of the body for balancing, in the full body treatment.

Prenatal Massage helps ease the emotional ups and downs as well as aid in the unique physical challenges of pregnancy.

Reflexology combines massage and pressure points on the feet and hands to help re-establish energy flow, improve circulation and balance and relieve stress. Helps to relieve headaches and aids in digestive disorders.

Sports Massage addresses the muscles used in athletic activities. This is a deep muscle massage often used around the joints. It combines classical Swedish style with trigger points, compression and techniques to reduce soreness. Excellent when preparing for sports activities or after a strenuous workout.

A massage is a great gift item, as well. Gift certificates may be obtained at the front desk. All massages and gift certificates may be charged to your Hills account. We also welcome non-members to make appointments with our therapists.
